Colby Harlow of PAL talks about dealership car shipping, and why having a dedicated account rep makes such a big difference for dealerships transporting vehicles.
Hi, my name’s Colby Harlow and I work at Preowned Auto Logistics. Very often, I’m confronted with the question, “why should I choose you over another brokerage option?”
I think there are many, many reasons, but my most common answer tends to be, simply put, “me”. You’re going to have a single point of contact over here. I’m going to walk you through the process from pickup to delivery and everything in between. And also, I view it as being a consultant for your dealership as well.
I’ve worked nationwide with dealerships all the way from California to North Carolina and in New England. I get to see the whole marketplace, so what I’m going to do is consult you on where cars are moving the fastest, where they’re moving the cheapest, so you can make the best decisions based off your needs, and just try to be beneficial for everyone.
Mike Marshall of PAL talks about how long it takes to ship a car from one location to another, and the various factors that affect car shipping transit times.
Hi, I’m Mike Marshall, Dispatch Manager with Preowned Auto Logistics. I’d like to talk to you about transit times and what can affect them.
There are many things that can affect the transit time of a vehicle once it’s in shipment. Among them can be mechanical difficulties, which can cause the driver to stop for repairs or maintenance. There are weather delays, which seem obvious, but there are many things that can affect them. If the roads are unsafe, the drivers will stop, park at a rest area and only drive when it’s safe to do so.
There are federal regulations that prohibit drivers from driving certain amount of hours in a day, so they can only drive the hours that are safe for everybody. They have to take breaks, so they can get on the road and be safe and deliver your car in a timely manner.

Lisa Silva of PAL talks about how to find reliable auto transportation, and choose the best company for you.
Make sure you check those Google reviews and see that they’re reliable and trustworthy. It’s a more personal way to get to know the company a little bit, the things they do right and the things they do wrong. The next thing you want to do is make sure you ask them about their insurance policy. What’s ideal for most insurance policies is about a $2 million policy. Make sure that your vehicle is covered all nine yards, and make sure that you’re not going to have any headaches when it does come to a totaled vehicle. So you want to ask a lot of questions because you don’t want to sign up for something that you’re not aware of. You want to make sure that you have a flat rate, that the price will not go up on you. And you also want to make sure that, that company is not going to go missing when you need help.
Customer service here at Preowned is one of our high priorities and we love to make sure that you’re taking care of as a customer. So asking those questions and getting a feel for a trustworthy company is very important because when you need those questions answered and you can’t find someone, it can become very stressful. And you don’t need a stressful situation when it comes to car transporting if you’re moving, if you’re going to college, if you’re doing dealership trades or anything like that. So you want to make sure you want to cover all bases before you do get your car on a trailer. You want to look out for that flat rate before you give them your credit card and set everything, and sign any papers. You want to ask them, will my price go up? That is very important because if they tell you that this is the minimum that they’re going to start with, then that means that your price is going to go up and you can expect charges that you weren’t aware of, and that can become very frustrating.
You also want to communicate to your sales rep your expectations and if they can be met. And if they can’t, then talk to your sales rep, maybe you guys can get together and create some more realistic expectations when it comes to transport. But you definitely don’t want to close in any deals that you don’t feel personally comfortable with.

Kevin Lombardi of PAL talks about what sets Preowned Auto Logistics apart from other car shipping companies.
Hi, my name is Kevin Lombardi. I’m Vice President of Business Development for Preowned Auto Logistics, and what I try to tell our customers is that we are different because we are efficient. Many of the stories you hear in the transportation business are bad. And people move from transportation company to transportation company because they can never be assured of the timeliness and safety of the delivery of their vehicle. We assure both those things, and it’s because of our people.
We have a lot of tenure here. We have incredibly skilled and tenured professionals in both sales and dispatch. And Dana is, probably, the number one resource in auto transportation in the country. He has positioned our business for the future. So, all of us are very vested in this business. We want to be here and we want to serve our customers.
I spend at least one to two days in the field per week, and I hear the horror stories. I hear the damages, the unreliability, cars not getting picked up, customers that need competitive prices. I hear a “bait and switch”, which is a term in my business that goes back since I started in sales over 30 years ago. We do none of that. We quote a price; we commit to the price; it’s fair and reasonable. And we get your car to the place it’s supposed to be in a timely and a safe fashion.
In many cases, our customers, our dealer customers, ask us to talk directly to their customers. So, that referral is at the highest level. And we have to be efficient and prompt when we’re handling our customers’ customers. That’s the differentiator at Preowned Auto Logistics.
Jake Klose of PAL talks about why having a dedicated account rep at Preowned Auto Logistics makes a huge difference for dealerships shipping cars.
One of the benefits of having a dedicated account rep is, you always have a point of contact, as opposed to these other companies where they’ll charge you a lower rate, but the service won’t be as good. Just like in any other industry, you pay for what you get. With us, you’re going to get dedicated account reps who will answer their phone 24/7, seven days a week, with any needs you may have. You want an update on where your vehicle is, you want an update on when it’ll be delivered, or when it’s even picked up, we’ll be here 24/7 for all your needs.
Me, as an account rep, I work with dealerships all over the country, ranging from dealerships in Connecticut to California. So I really have to be available 24/7. So if you need a quote, the simplest way would be the email or call, and I’ll be available right away.
So with Preowned, there’s multiple avenues for you to get information. Me, as an account rep, like I said, always I’m available 24/7, you can call me. But we also do offer our PAL portal for our customers and our dealerships. This allows you to track your in-transit inventory. You can always see when your cars are being dispatched, picked up, en route, and when they’re delivered. And you also get nightly updates through our PAL portal on the status of your order as well.
So when you ship with Preowned, when you put an order in with us, whenever we have a driver assigned, I will personally reach out to you and let you know a timeframe of when the driver will be expecting picked up and a timeframe of when he will be delivering. We can’t give you exact time, just in this industry it’s just not realistic. One thing that I do tell my customers is, “You might not like what I’m going to [say], but it’s not going to be a lie, it’s going to be the truth.” And I think that’s very important in this industry, is to be truthful. Because, let’s be honest, in this industry there are many mistakes that can happen. But I would say what separates us apart is how we deal with them.

Colby Harlow of PAL talks about dealership car shipping, and why being able to rely on Preowned Auto Logistics for all of your car transportation needs make a huge difference compared to using multiple companies with different points of contact.
Hi, my name’s Colby Harlow. I work at Preowned Auto Logistics, and I just wanted to talk to you quickly about one-stop shopping. Over here, we’re a nationwide brokerage firm. I’ve dealt with many dealerships in the past that have ordered, and I reach out to brokers based on the region of the country that they’re looking for a car from.
Over here, we found it very beneficial to, instead of having multiple contacts and multiple different companies, to just use one company that works nationwide. You benefit, because instead of reaching out to three or four companies looking for your cars, you give me one call, I’m your one point of contact, I can tell you about any car that you’re moving with us anywhere in the country. On top of that, accounting-wise, you’re getting invoices from one company. Any questions you have, calling me, one person. I just think it really condenses the process, it’s time-saving, and allows you to do what you do best, and sell cars.

Mike Marshall of PAL talks about the differences between open and closed carriers for car transport.
Hi, I’m Mike Marshall, Dispatch Manager with Preowned Auto Logistics. I want to talk to you today about the differences between open and enclosed transport for vehicles. Open trailers — your car is exposed to elements, and it goes down the highway, just like anything else. But again, it is open. The cars are secured and strapped down. However, road dust and grime and water will definitely affect the transit. It is cheaper and not always the best option for a luxury car or something that’s an irregular size or shape.
You can always go enclosed. And enclosed is just what it says; it’s a car trailer that has an enclosure. So your vehicle remains inside and clean, dust-free and dry. And generally, they have door-to-door deliveries. And there is a premium for it; it is a service that’s beyond the normal one. But it is something we provide, and is well worth it for high-value vehicles.
